Electrostatic Classifiers and DMAs

Electrostatic Classifiers and Differential Mobility Analyzers (DMAs) are the tools of choice for measuring the size of submicron particles

Electrostatic Classifiers and DMAs

These instruments work together to use the electrical mobility technique to determine particle size. This technique is the most appropriate way to measure the size of particles smaller than one micrometer. Indeed, ISO 15900 states that electrical mobility is the preferred mechanism, globally, for submicrometer particle measurement.

TSI’s electrostatic classifiers and DMAs have a long history, over 40 years, of using the electrical mobility technique to measure particle size. With decades of experience manufacturing high-performance aerosol instrumentation, classifiers and DMAs are at the heart of what we do. To find the aerosol sizing instrument that is right for your application, explore this website further, or talk to a TSI expert at particle@tsi.com.

Electrostatic Classifier 3082

Our latest generation of Electrostatic Classifier, Model 3082, continues to be the solution in helping scientists generate and size submicrometer particles. The Classifier features valuable capabilities for many aerosol-related applications, and an easy-to-use interface.

Differential Mobility Analyzer 3081A

A Differential Mobility Analyzer (DMA) is the key component for particle sizers like SMPS™, which are used to perform particle size distribution measurements. The model 3081A is designed to cover a general size range from 10 nm to <1,000 nm. The Electrostatic Classifiers 3082 can be used with any of the four TSI DMAs (see other models 3083, 3085A, and 3086). TSI DMAs are equipped with an identification tag so that the classifier automatically recognizes the installed component. This hardware auto-recognition supports data quality.

Differential Mobility Analyzer 3085A

A Differential Mobility Analyzer (DMA) is the key component for particle sizers like SMPS™, which are used to perform particle size distribution measurements. The model 3085A is designed to cover a general size range from 2 nm to 150 nm. The Electrostatic Classifiers 3082 can be used with any of the four TSI DMAs (see other models 3083, 3081A, and 3086). TSI DMAs are equipped with an identification tag so that the classifier automatically recognizes the installed component. This hardware auto-recognition supports data quality.

Differential Mobility Analyzer 3086

A Differential Mobility Analyzer (DMA) is the key component for particle sizers like the 1nm SMPS which is used to perform particle size distribution measurements. The model 3086 is designed to cover a general size range from 1 nm to 50 nm. The Electrostatic Classifier 3082 can be used with any of the four TSI DMAs (see other models 3081A, 3083 and 3085A). TSI DMAs are equipped with an identification tag so that the classifier automatically recognizes the installed component. This hardware auto-recognition supports data quality.

Differential Mobility Analyzer 3083

A Differential Mobility Analyzer (DMA) is the key component for particle sizers like SMPS™ which are used to perform particle size distribution measurements. The model 3083 is designed to cover a size range from 10 nm to 800 nm in a single scan. This new DMA can be controlled using the Electrostatic Classifier 3082, as can any of our other DMAs (see models 3081A, 3085A, and 3086). TSI DMAs are equipped with an identification tag so that the classifier automatically recognizes the installed component. This hardware auto-recognition supports data quality.
