Insight V3V-DPIR Software Package


Insight V3V-DPIR is the latest version of V3V software for image capture and analysis for all volumetric PIV measurements. Dense Particle Identification & Reconstruction (DPIR), is a state-of-the-art algorithm to identify and to reconstruct dense particles in the volume to provide velocity field with high spatial resolution to uncover small turbulent flow structures. This 4D PIV algorithm builds on the recent advances in Computer Vision and is the first to integrate volumetric PIV through Peaks, Projections, Paths—a novel technique applicable to both time-resolved & non-time-resolved cases.

Product Details

The DPIR measures real particle images rather than relying on virtual images created by an optical transfer function—without making assumptions about particle image characteristics. DPIR uses intensity Peaks, Projections from other cameras, and time-resolved Paths to identify particle image centroids in dense fields and triangulate with greater accuracy than traditional techniques.

DPIR is an iterative technique, meaning that once the peaks, projections, and paths have been used to more accurately determine the number of particles per support set, the multiple particle fitting is performed again, giving a more accurate initialization as the steps are iterated. The process repeats until all possible particles have been identified and tracked.

With DPIR, you are able to get results from volumetric PIV measurements with accuracy and highest spatial resolution to uncover the smallest flow structures.

Using the DPIR algorithm, the highest possible number of particles can be identified as illustrated in the figure below:
