TSI Flow Meters Featured in a Recent Study on Manual Ventilation Safety

A recent study published in BMJ Innovations explores some of the risks of manual ventilation with a resuscitator bag.

When mechanical ventilators are not available for patients, manual ventilation is usually the alternative. However, manually ventilating patients is a challenging task and not without risks. Improper resuscitator bagging techniques during manual ventilation can cause harm to the patient.

TSI 5300 Flow MetersA recent study published in BMJ Innovations explores some of the risks of manual ventilation with a resuscitator bag. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center researchers found that risk may be reduced with the help of an accessory safety valve that limits the inspiratory flow.

TSI’s 5300 series flow meter (and its corresponding FLO-Sight software) were used throughout this experiment to measure the tidal volume and peak inspiratory/expiratory pressure. Our 5000 Series flow meters are ideal for this type of testing due to their bidirectional flow sensing, volume measurement, and ambient and differential pressure sensing capabilities.
