Laser doppler velocimetry (LDV; also known as laser doppler anemometry, LDA) is a velocity measurement technique based on seed particles crossing a set of uniform fringes in the measurement volume. Based on the optical arrangement, the spacing of the fringes is defined. By measuring the time for the seed particles, representing the flow, to cross the fringes, the velocity is then calculated as distance between fringes divided by the time of the particle crossing the fringes. Since the measurement point is formed by the crossing of two laser beams, the technique is non-intrusive, giving very accurate velocity information with very high spatial resolution.
The major components to make up a LDV system generally consist of a laser, transmitting optics, signal processor and controlling software.
TSI offers two system versions with different laser/transmitting optics to meet your challenging flow applications in aerodynamics, hydrodynamics as well as spray diagnostics: the PowerSight-based and the Itasca-based LDV Systems.
