TSI's Torsten Tritscher publishes article on pollution, atmospheric stability, and turbulence

Read a new paper co-authored by TSI's Dr. Torsten Tritscher.

TSI Senior Application Engineer Dr. Torsten TritscherTSI Senior Application Engineer Dr. Torsten Tritscher is a contributing author on a new paper published by Science of The Total Environment (STOTEN). According to the website, "Science of the Total Environment is an international multi-disciplinary journal for publication of novel, hypothesis-driven and high-impact research on the total environment, which interfaces the atmosphere,  lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and anthroposphere."

The paper, Emissions vs. turbulence and atmospheric stability: A study of their relative importance in determining air pollutant concentrations, is published in the September 2020 issue of STOTEN. The abstract is as follows:

Air pollution in the urban environment is a major concern. The ambient concentrations depend on the levels of transboundary imported pollution, the intensity of local sources and the prevailing atmospheric conditions. This work studies the relative impact of two atmospheric variables–atmospheric stability and regional scale turbulence–in determining the air pollution concentrations. We considered a setting (downtown Haifa, Israel) impacted by a large variety of sources, emitting pollutants with different chemical attributes and atmospheric life times.
