On February 11, the Director-General of the World Health Organization declared 2019-nCoV Novel Coronavirus, now known as COVID-19, a “very grave threat.” According to news reports, cases are continuing to appear in China and other parts of the world. Proper use of personal protective equipment, like masks and respirators, is a critical part of the global healthcare response to the virus that causes COVID-19.
Last week, we learned that organizations in Guangzhou, China are already using TSI’s Automatic Filter Tester 8130A to conduct onsite filter testing on mask and respirator filter material. The 8130A is designed to measure the filtration efficiency of medical products like masks and protective clothing.
The 8130A tests filtration products for compliance with various international standards, including Chinese respirator standards and related inspection requirements like the following:
- GB2626: Respiratory protective equipment. Non-powered air-purifying particle respirator
- GB19083: Technical requirements for protective face mask for medical use
- GB/T32610: Technical specification of daily protective mask
Data from 8130A filter tests helps our customers differentiate between effective and non-effective masks, respirators, and other medical and medical device filters. We are proud to know that by testing materials for quality with the 8130A, communities are able to identify safer, more protective PPE and better protect their medical staff during this or any health crisis.
