Shoreview, MN—For a Puerto Rico still recovering from Hurricane Maria, damaged and lost equipment is just another obstacle to restoration and rebuilding. When TSI Senior Industrial Hygienist Greg Olson came across a request for donations of protective gear on the AIHA website , he wanted to help, but didn't see instruments that TSI manufactures on the list.
Olson realized that the original requester was his friend, Dr. Sergio Caporali Filho. Dr. Filho is a faculty member in the Industrial Hygiene Program at the Graduate School of Public Health in the University of Puerto Rico. Olson and Filho have worked together on projects that supplied the university with laboratory and teaching instruments.
Post-hurricane, Dr. Filho is providing industrial hygiene and safety support at restoration sites around the island. He welcomed the offer of TSI health and safety instruments. In response, TSI is delivering a PortaCount® Respirator Fit Tester and three SidePak™ Personal Aerosol Monitors to Dr. Filho and the University. The PortaCount device tests respirators for fit and performance, ensuring the best possible protection from inhalation hazards. For workers in demolition, construction, manufacturing, or medical and emergency response, PortaCount fit tests will ensure proper respiratory protection. The SidePak instruments measure the concentration of dust, fumes, and smoke around a worker's breathing zone, providing early warning of unsafe conditions.
"We're happy that TSI instruments will contribute meaningfully to the recovery in Puerto Rico, and help protect the safety of people who are rebuilding," said Olson.
