Be a part of the IEEE Women in Engineering online international leadership conference in June

By Jennifer Gravdahl, TSI Software Engineer IV

TSI Software Engineer Jennifer Gravdahl on IEEE Women in Engineering ILCThere are some great benefits to being a woman in a STEM career. For example, there's never a line at the woman's restroom at conferences! But, there are also challenges that come when you find that you are often the only woman in the room.

The IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Conference is a great opportunity to be encouraged and inspired by other women who are passionate about their work. And, since it's virtual this year, there is still no line for the rest room! The IEEE WIE ILC is free and runs throughout the month of June 2020, offering 1-hour sessions, live panel discussions, virtual networking opportunities, and an on-demand library.

Highlights from IEEE WIE ILC so far

I attended both of the live sessions last week and viewed one of the sessions from the on demand library so far. Did you know you could increase your value as an employee by 50% by working on your public speaking skills? Hiba Shabrouq has some great tips in her On-Demand Session.

I also highly recommend the first live session (still available on-demand) with Sallie Krawcheck, CEO and co-founder of Ellevest. Her advice on the importance of investing is excellent for everyone, not just women, though her company focus is on helping woman take ownership of their own finances.

How to attend IEEE WIE ILC

To access the conference sessions you need only register and then you can view past sessions on demand and future sessions live (or on demand). The conference web page is http://ieee-wie-ilc.org/. Click on Virtual Series Registration and Library to register.

The online conference will end with a showing of a new documentary, Pioneers in Skirts.
