NGI Cup Coater

Particle bounce and re-entrainment can significantly impact the accuracy of Aerodynamic Particle Size Distribution (APSD) measurements when using cascade impactors, like the NGI or ACI, for Orally Inhaled and Nasal Drug Products (OINDPs). This phenomenon occurs when particles, instead of adhering to the collection surface, bounce back into the airflow, leading to inaccurate data by overestimating the Fine Particle Dose (FPD).

The NGI Cup Coater addresses this issue by providing a standardized, reliable method to apply a tacky coating (e.g., glycerol or silicone oil) to collection surfaces, ensuring particles adhere properly. This reduces bounce, improves data accuracy, and ensures more consistent APSD measurements, particularly for dry powder inhalers (DPIs) and some metered-dose inhaler (MDI) formulations.

By eliminating variables in the coating process, the NGI Cup Coater enhances reproducibility, making it an essential tool for precise inhaler testing.
