With the launch of
TSI Link™ for Respiratory Protection, TSI has taken a significant step forward in helping safety professionals manage their fit testing programs more efficiently. We sat down with
Don Stager, SaaS Product Manager at TSI, to discuss the new platform, why it was developed, and how it’s designed to meet the evolving needs of users across industries.
Q: What inspired the development of TSI Link™ for Respiratory Protection?
Product Manager (PM):
We’ve worked closely with safety professionals in industrial hygiene, healthcare, emergency response, and other sectors, and a consistent challenge kept coming up—managing respiratory protection programs was cumbersome and disjointed. Teams were dealing with spreadsheets, local files, and manual processes that made compliance tracking difficult and time-consuming.
We built TSI Link™ for Respiratory Protection as a cloud-based platform to centralize that entire workflow—giving PortaCount™ Fit Testers users a smarter, more connected way to manage fit testing programs.
Q: What sets this platform apart from traditional fit test data management?
PM:
The biggest difference is the centralization and automation. With this platform, data from PortaCount™ devices is automatically uploaded and stored in the TSI Link cloud. That eliminates the need for manual data entry and local file management.
It also provides real-time access to the Program Management Portal, where users can view dashboards, manage people and devices, track compliance, and even let employees self-schedule their own fit tests. Everything is accessible from any internet-connected device, which is a game changer for teams managing multiple locations or working remotely.
Q: How does it improve compliance and reduce administrative burden?
PM:
By automating key steps like data collection, scheduling, and reminders, we reduce the risk of human error and missed deadlines. The compliance dashboard gives safety teams visibility into each employee's fit test status, medical clearance, and training progress—so they can act proactively, not reactively.
We also included tools like the PortaCount Asset Manager, which tracks calibration dates and service status, helping ensure devices are always ready and compliant.
Q: Can it integrate with other systems companies are already using?
PM:
Yes, absolutely. One of the most powerful features is the open API, which allows integration with HR platforms, EHS software, training systems, and more. That means companies can connect TSI Link™ for Respiratory Protection directly into their existing digital ecosystem, avoiding duplicate data entry and improving consistency across departments.
Q: What kind of user is this platform built for?
PM:
This is for any organization that performs quantitative fit testing and wants a more efficient, scalable way to manage it. That includes manufacturers, fire departments, hospitals, construction firms. Whether you're running hundreds of fit tests a month or just a few, this platform gives you control, visibility, and time back in your day.
Q: What’s the feedback been like so far?
PM:
Early users like how intuitive and time-saving it is. The Employee Self-Scheduler has been a standout feature—it's reduced back-and-forth emails dramatically. And teams really appreciate being able to access everything in one place without worrying about software updates or file storage issues.
Q:
Where can people learn more or try it out?
PM:
