The Inhaled Dissolution Apparatus (IDA) is a dedicated dissolution testing platform for orally inhaled and nasal drug products (OINDPs), developed to address a key gap in inhalation product characterization within pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. The IDA enables controlled capture of aerosolized drug particles followed by repeatable dissolution testing, generating data that can be used to support formulation development, method development, quality control activities, and regulatory documentation.
The system is built around a structured three-step workflow—Collect, Transfer, Dissolve—that integrates aerosol sample collection with direct transfer into the dissolution setup, helping maintain sample integrity and consistency throughout testing.
Designed to support in vitro performance assessment where conventional dissolution approaches are limited, the IDA provides insight into particle dissolution behavior following deposition. This supports comparative assessment of formulations and contributes data that may be used in the evaluation of in vitro–in vivo relationships (IVIVC) during development and lifecycle management.
