Connecting to QTrak XP

Connect via USB Cable or Network

There are several ways to connect a QTrak XP to your TrakPro Ultra application.  The instrument can be connected directly to your TrakPro Ultra computer / tablet via a USB cable.  This is the simplest method and requires no network configuration.  The TrakPro Ultra computer / tablet and QTrak XP can both be configured to communicate over a network, if available.

Please choose the desired communication method for the computer / tablet running TrakPro Ultra.

USB

Connect a USB cable between your QTrak XP and Windows PC as shown in QTrak XP Operation and Service Manual, under Connecting to a Computer or IOS / Android Tablet

Power on QTrak XP.  If USB communication is successful, you will see a green bubble with the number one appear over the Connection icon in the upper right-hand corner of the TrakPro Ultra application.

If the number one does not appear, check the following:

  1. Make sure you have connected to the proper USB ports as shown in the picture above.  QTrak XP must be connected with the small USB port on the right side of the unit - not the large USB port on the bottom.
  2. Make sure the USB port on your computer / tablet is working properly.  Try connecting a flash drive to your computer to check that it is operating properly.

Click on the Devices tab of TrakPro Ultra.  If you see the name of your QTrak XP with the acquired study list underneath, the connection is successful.

If no studies appear, you may need to enable the connection.  Click the Connection icon.  You should see your QTrak XP appear with a USB symbol in the list.

If the plug icon is gray, click it to enable the connection.  It should turn green and your QTrak XP studies should then appear under the Devices tab.   You can turn the Auto Connect switch on so that TrakPro Ultra automatically enables the connection whenever QTrak XP is connected in the future.

Network

You can connect to your QTrak XP over a network.  First make sure that your PC / tablet is successfully connected to the network.  If you are connecting the PC / tablet over a WiFi connection, be sure that the WiFi connection strength is sufficient.

QTrak XP must connect to your network over WiFi.  <Should we link to an online QTrak XP manual for WiFi config or repeat it here?>

Make sure that QTrak XP is powered on.  TrakPro Ultra supports Automatic Device Discovery (ADD) which automatically discovers any QTrak XP devices available on the network.  This service, originally developed by Apple, is also called Bonjour.

If ADD is available:

The QTrak XP should be discovered automatically.  You will see a green circle with the number one appear over the connection icon in the upper right hand corner of the TrakPro Ultra application.

If the number one does not appear, check the following:

  1. Check that your PC / tablet is properly connected to the network.  Try opening a browser and connecting to a website.
  2. Make sure that the QTrak XP is connected to the network.  Open the Settings tab, then the Network tab.  Check that the WiFi connection is operating.
  3. If your PC / tablet had an old version of ADD software installed, it will need to be rebooted for the new version to work properly.
  4. In order for ADD to work with an Ethernet or Wifi connection, the network router must allow MDNS/Bonjour traffic on the segment. If the router denies MDNS traffic then the user must connect manually to their QTrak XP device.
  5. The TrakPro Ultra computer / tablet and QTrak XP device cannot be on separate network segments.  If they are, you will need to manually connect.
  6. Some network administrators block the ADD service on their network.  You will have to manually connect if that is the case.

If ADD is not available:

You will need to manually connect to your QTrak XP.

  1. Open the Settings tab on QTrak XP, then the Network tab.  Note the IP address of the device.
  2. Click the Connection icon in the upper right hand corner of TrakPro Ultra.
  3. Enter the IP address and click ADD.

If the QTrak XP has been discovered, you will see a green circle with the number one appear over the connection icon in the upper right hand corner of the TrakPro Ultra application.  If the number one does not appear, check the following:

  1. Check that the IP address was entered correctly.
  2. Some WiFi routers require the TrakPro Ultra computer / tablet and QTrak XP to be on the same WiFi band (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz).  QTrak XP only supports the 2.4GHz band.  Try connecting your computer to this band as well.

Click on the Devices tab of TrakPro Ultra.  If you see the name of your QTrak XP with the acquired study list underneath, the connection is successful.

If no studies appear, you may need to enable the connection.  Click the Connection icon.  You should see your Qtrak XP appear with the USB symbol in the list.

If the plug icon is gray, click it to enable the connection.  It should turn green and your QTrak XP studies should appear under the Devices tab.   You can turn the Auto Connect switch on so that TrakPro automatically enables the connection when QTrak XP is connected in the future.
