FAQs about collecting, storing, and sharing data

Frequently-asked questions about collecting, storing, and sharing data from your air monitoring devices.

How can I see historical device data in TSI Link™ Solutions? What tools are available?

TSI Link™ Solutions offers the option to graph your historical device data. Depending on your device type, you can choose to view PM2.5, PM10, temperature, relative humidity, CO, O3, TVOC, NO2, SO2, CO2, and formaldehyde on the graph. You can also export a .csv data file.

Is my device measurement data secure? Is the web server hosting the data secure?

Yes, your device data is secure. TSI uses a secure cloud platform.

How do I download data?

Once you have created a TSI Link™ Solutions account, you can log in and download your data as a .csv file. To download your data, click the history button, adjust the parameters as desired, click the three vertical dots in the upper left-hand corner, and select export csv.

Can I see data from other device owners?

Yes, you can see data from other device owners if they have made their data publicly viewable, or if they have shared their data with you.

To make your data viewable to all TSI Link™ Solutions users, select “make data viewable” when registering your monitor or click “settings” in your device’s popover card and switch to “make data viewable.”

How do I know that my device is posting data to TSI Link™ Solutions?

You can verify this by going to TSI Link™ Solutions and search for the serial number (on the bottom of your monitor), look for the status, and find the last posted data point.

Can I change how often data is stored on TSI Link™ Solutions?

Yes, data can be pushed to TSI Link™ Solutions at a logging interval rate you set. TSI Link™ Solutions data can be configured to report data at different logging intervals, meaning users can change how often data is stored.

Is data stored on TSI Link™ Solutions at the same rate as the SD card?

The data is stored onto the microSD card at the same rate it reports to TSI Link™ Solutions. This is determined by the logging interval the user sets in TSI Link™ Solutions. The default is every 15 minutes.

Can I prevent my monitor from reporting data to TSI Link™ Solutions or logging data onto the SD card?

Yes, to stop data from reporting to TSI Link™ Solutions, do not configure the wi-fi network. If a wi-fi network hasn’t been configured, the monitor cannot connect to TSI Link™ Solutions. To stop data from logging onto the microSD card, simply remove the microSD card from the monitor.

Is my data private?

When you activate your monitor(s), you can set up your data to be viewable to other TSI Link™ Solutions users. If you do not wish to make your data public to all other TSI Link™ Solutions users, you can choose to keep it private. Please note that, even if your data is not viewable to all users, you can share your data with other specific TSI Link™ Solutions users.

Can TSI see my data? Who else can see my data?

Yes, TSI administrators can see all monitor data, as we host TSI Link™ Solutions. If you have decided to keep your data private when you activated your device, only you and TSI will be able to see your data.  If you chose to make your data viewable by all TSI Link™ Solutions users, that monitor’s data will be able to be seen by anyone logged into TSI link solutions.

My wi-fi is very intermittent. What happens if I often lose connection to TSI Link™ Solutions?

A SD card is installed into the device at the factory. The data will be backed up on the SD card. Data is also buffered within the firmware for a limited time (data is logged for approximately one week at 15-minute intervals) and once the wi-fi connection is re-established, the buffered data is posted to TSI Link™ Solutions. However, if there is no wi-fi or internet connection for over a week, TSI Link™ Solutions will start missing data. If this happens, and if an SD card is installed in the monitor, you will need to retrieve the data manually from the card. Also, please note that the SD card cannot save data in the cloud solution or be backed up to TSI Link™ Solutions.

Is my data secure?

The data on TSI Link™ Solutions is fully authenticated and encrypted. TSI offers a default transport layer security (TLS) 1.2 connection, which can downgrade to TLS 1.1 or 1.0 as necessary.

What is the secure sockets layer (SSL) and transport security layer (TLS) protocols?

SSL and TLS are widely used protocols designed to transport data securely between a client and a server. In the 1990s, SSLs enabled the beginning of secure commerce on the internet. Its modern counterpart, TLS, is used by web browsers and servers to protect the privacy of today’s web communications. When a URL address contains https, the 's' stands for secure, and indicates that data is being transmitted securely using one of these protocols.

Once inside TSI Link™ Solutions, data is transmitted using mutual TLS (MTLS). MTLS authentication ensures that traffic is both secure and trusted in both directions (to and from) as well as between ingress load balancers and backend services.

User identity is authenticated using Auth0 (https://auth0.com). Once authenticated, a signed 0Auth 2.0 json web token is transmitted along with every call to service APIs. Services validate these tokens and validate that the token presented is authorized to perform the requested action.

What is the data format on TSI Link™ Solutions?

Data is sent to TSI Link™ Solutions in a binary string. The components of the binary string are: the time stamp, PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations, temperature, relative humidity (rh), overall monitor status, status of the sensors, CO, O3, TVOC, NO2, SO2, CO2, and formaldehyde.  The actual data sent will depend on the sensors included in the device.

Should data on TSI Link™ Solutions match the data on the SD card?

Yes.

Can I save data on the SD card at a different rate/interval than TSI Link™ Solutions?

No, the data is stored on the microSD is at the same rate as the logging interval for the data reporting on TSI Link™ Solutions.

Can I upload data from the SD card to TSI Link™ Solutions?

No, you cannot upload data from the SD card to TSI Link™ Solutions. However, in the event of a wi-fi outage, data is also buffered within the firmware for a limited time (data is logged for approximately one week at 15-minute intervals) and once the wi-fi connection is re-established, the buffered data is posted to TSI Link™ Solutions. However, if there is no wi-fi or internet connection for over a week, the cloud will start missing data.

Can I limit access to who can view the data?

All of your monitor data is private unless you decide to share the data with other monitor owners. To share measurement data, you can either:

  • Make your data viewable to all monitor owners, or
  • Keep your data private, but identify specific monitor owners who can access your data.

Does TSI send data to 3rd parties?

Please see our Data Privacy & Protection Policy for more information.

Does TSI’s Excel Date Analyzer Release 1.1.4 support multi-factor and offset calibration corrections for BlueSky devices (8143)?

BlueSky correction factors for PM 2.5 and PM 10 are applied. All other correction factors must be applied manually once data is imported into Excel.
