7 Tips to Extend the Life of your DustTrak™ Aerosol Monitor

The DustTrak™ Aerosol Monitors provide real-time accurate results when it comes to measure aerosol hazards such as dust, smoke, fume and mists in indoor and outdoor environments.

To get the most out of your instrument we have compiled a list of 7 tips that can help ensure that the DustTrak™ Aerosol Monitor is always in optimal condition and help to extend runtime between service intervals.

  1. Always use DustTrak™ Aerosol Monitor as described in the manual.

  2. Send the instrument back to TSI for cleaning and calibration once a year for optimal performance. Note that TSI’s annual service offering includes internal cleaning and calibration.

  3. Perform zero check before each use. For continuous monitoring, please consider using the Auto Zero Module during sampling to reset any drift that occurs due to changes in temperature, relative humidity or deposition of aerosols in the optics chamber (due to inertial/gravitational/diffusional deposition).

  4. Before each use remember to clean and add impactor oil to all DustTrak II Model impactors (PM1/PM2.5/PM4.0/PM10) and clean the Dorr-Oliver 10 mm Nylon Cyclone to ensure proper function.  See DustTrak manual for inlet conditioner use and cleaning procedures.

  5. Charge and remove batteries for optimal long-term storage (> 30 days) of the instrument.

  6. Replace HEPA filter for DustTrak monitors according to the instructions in the manual.

  7. For inlet tubing use only the conductive tubing supplied with the DustTrak and keep it as short and as straight as possible (no loops or kinks).
